Welcome to In The Field with Christy Coleman
In The Field came to life as a way for me to share my personal journey of exploring beauty, both outwardly and inwardly. It’s a space where I reflect on the stories and experiences that have shaped me, particularly as I step into my late fifties—a time when beauty takes on deeper meaning amidst life’s most meaningful moments. Here, beauty becomes more than an external expression; it’s a reflection of the life I’ve lived and the lessons I’ve learned. Through this space, I hope to share the exploration of what it means to embrace beauty in all its forms—whether through makeup, skincare, wellness, or the deeper connections we form with ourselves at every stage of life.

About Me

I have spent my entire life curiously wrapped in the world of beauty. At the age of 12, I was devoured by the pages of Vogue and Seventeen while riding shotgun in a wheat truck on my family's farm, taking in all the latest products and studying the makeup that adorned the pages. By the age of 19, I was a licensed esthetician and owned my own facial studio.
The world of fashion and beauty held my attention so I decided to move to NYC where my first job was working for Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager in their first boutique hotel, The Morgans, where I learned all about detail and the power of branding.
With many steps in between, I soon found myself assisting the legendary makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin; my first job with him was the Perry Ellis runway show designed by Marc Jacobs that is still talked about today. I worked at the first Mac store on Christopher street but my time there was shortened due to the fact that I did not wear enough makeup.
Shortly after I began working independently for campaigns such as Ralph Lauren, Nautica, and Tommy Hilfiger, and for editorial magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. However, it was the personal loss of my father to ALS in 2005, potentially due to chemical exposure, that ignited my passion to clean-up the beauty industry. I became the first top makeup artist to switch to an entirely “clean” kit with the sole purpose of understanding the differences between “clean” and traditional beauty. I partnered with Beautycounter in 2011, two years prior to launch, to create high-performing products in hopes of revolutionizing the industry standard.
I’ve recently relocated to my home state of Texas, where I continue my mission to redefine the narrative of beauty through storytelling, education, and conversations with leaders in the field of beauty and beyond.
