On the Record: My Conversation with Lindsay Dahl
A behind-the-scenes look at clean formulation and the story that started it all
Earlier this month, Lindsay Dahl reached out to interview me—about clean beauty, yes, but also about where this work really began for me.
We talked about the early days: studying ingredients in my garage studio, the personal loss that pushed me to question everything, and the long arc of formulating beauty products that are both safer and high-performing.
Here’s a short excerpt:
“I wasn’t a scientist or a policy expert. I was a makeup artist who felt a call. I started studying ingredients in my garage studio, quietly swapping out products in my kit, starting a blog, and, in 2011, meeting Gregg Renfrew…”
We also got into what it means to earn trust in this space—and what still needs to shift in the beauty industry at large.
I’m grateful for the conversation and for her thoughtful questions. If you read it, I’d love to know what stood out to you.

What stood out to me was your father’s words! As a breast cancer survivor and being told by my oncologist that it was nothing I did to cause my cancer, it was the environment.
